Food delivery is a convenient option if you're in a rush or would rather eat at home. According to a poll conducted by US Foods, the typical American has two meal delivery apps installed on their smartphone and utilizes them three times per month.
In terms of downloads, Uber Eats has far and away beaten out Grubhub, DoorDash, and Postmates as the most popular food delivery applications. However, the price of ordering food delivery online may add up quickly.
Service fees for some well-liked apps can be anything from a few dollars to over ten dollars, and they build up faster than you might think. According to a poll conducted by US Foods, the median amount customers are prepared to spend for delivery, service, and tipping is $8.50. Fees add up to about $25.50 each month if you use it thrice a month, and that's before you include the cost of meals.
The American Card is a fantastic option for those who frequently order from Grubhub or Seamless. Each year, cardholders are entitled to a $120 dining credit that may be used at places like Grubhub.
Registration is essential. This is a fantastic method of offsetting the expense of eating in. As if the annual meal credit weren't enough, cardholders now get 4X Membership Rewards® points for every dollar spent at dining establishments.
If you're looking to save money by not always eating out but still want the convenience of having food delivered to your door, the 4X rewards rate also applies to U.S. supermarkets.
Besides the food-related benefits, Amex cardholders can also take advantage of money-saving Amex Offers, which may offer discounts at restaurants in the form of a statement credit or bonus Membership Rewards® points at participating establishments. The card comes with a $250 annual charge, but the perks may be worth it.
DoorDash benefits were added to the Chase Sapphire Reserve last year, making this card a better choice for people who frequently use this service. Cardholders are eligible for a free DashPass membership through the end of 2024. For purchases above $12, DashPass offers free delivery and reduced service fees from hundreds of restaurants.
In addition to the perks unique to working at DoorDash, you'll also receive a $300 annual travel credit that may be applied to the cost of things like flights and lodging. Unique to this card, when redeemed for travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards, all points are doubled in value.
If you want to use your points for travel expenses like airfare, hotels, vehicle rentals, and cruises, you'll need 60,000 points, which can be redeemed for $900 through Chase Ultimate Rewards.
Consider using a credit card that rewards dining expenditures, including meal delivery, if you like non-traditional services like Postmates or Caviar. The Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card offers a competitive 4% cash back on dining expenses compared to other credit cards.
This card's free year of Postmates Unlimited membership was a limited-time offer that terminated on December 31, 2019. Even so, it's an excellent option for having Postmates or another service bring your food.
When you make three transactions totaling $3,000 within the first three months after starting your account, you'll receive a one-time cash bonus of $300. Bonus rewards of 3% at food stores and 1% elsewhere are available to cardholders.
In addition, if you plan on eating out, you can take advantage of OpenTable's VIP reservation privileges at upscale restaurants.
Select looked at the most widely held credit cards from the largest banks, financial institutions, and credit unions, all of which are open to new members and offer extra rewards on food delivery, to find which cards provide the best value for eating out. Cardholders receive double the average amount of reward points when spending in a designated category.
We analyzed each card's characteristics, such as cash-back incentives, welcome bonuses, promotional and normal APR, balance transfer charges, international transaction fees, and other criteria, such as minimum credit score and customer reviews.
We also looked at how simple it was to apply and get a card and how quickly and easily customers could cash in their points for rewards.
